The envelope is damaged and has been professionally restored but a major new discovery and a great rarity, the only first day use of any of the 1841 issues that we know of and also being the first day of use of black ink for cancellations at the Inland Office (rare in itself). B.P.A. certificate (2009). Photo. Rowland Hill's Post Office Journal states that he was unwell on February 10th and although still unwell on the 11th 'went to the Office for a short time' and notes 'Envelopes & Stamps, sale of. Yesterday the new Envelopes and labels came into use. Out of a stock of about 100,000 Envelopes, they sold, the first day, at the Stamp Office all but 3,000 or 4,000.
