Antarctica: Shackleton-Rowett Expedition 1921-22: Autograph letter on Quest R.Y.S. letterhead written and signed by expedition leader Sir Ernest Shackleton, with original cover (roughly opened, flap missing) endorsed ''Quest'' addressed to George Tripcorny in London bearing Great Britain 2d. with violet oval R.M.S.P. ''Andes'' ''POSTED ON HIGH SEAS'' datestamp of ''- 2 DEC 1921'' alongside, overstruck by London F.S. machine paquebot of Dec. 17. Letter dated ''19th Nov. 1921/off the Coast of Brazil'', Shackleton advising Tripcorny that he will deliver the latter's letter to islander Harry Swain on Tristan da Cunha as ''I expect to see all the islanders when we arrive at Tristan''. One of two 'last known' letters and cover sent whilst Shackleton was 'off Brazil' as Shackleton suffered a heart attack within sight of South Georgia and died on Jan. 5 1922. Also additional items incl. original copies of the letters (dated Sept. 13) sent from Tripcorny to Shackleton and Swain, four letters (one transcript only) dated between 1919 and 1927, and two 1920 stampless covers (condition rather poor) with Tristan type II cachet, sent from Swain to Tripcony.
