The letter is a printed memorandum from the Soho Plate Company regarding trials of a safety lamp for use on the raliways including a fine engraving of their works on the letterhead and an illustration showing a lamp lighting the entrance to a tunnel from the front of a train, giving details of distances of objects visible.
