Military Telegraph Stamps: 1886 (July), a fascinating series of copy letters from De La Rue archives, comprising a two page letter from Major Bagnold at the 'Junior United Service Club, London S.W., 18.9.86', to 'The Inspector Genl. of Fortifications', explaining the reason for the production of the local provisional surcharges, the difficulties in their production, and requesting that a further surcharged issue be produced in London, a opaque buff paper (65 x 220mm) bearing illustrations of the provisional surcharges and indicating the values to which they were applied was attached but has since been separated. A copy of a letter dated 28th September 1886, from Lothian Nicholson at the War Office to the Secretary of the Board of Inland Revenue forwarding the request and a further two page letter from De La Rue to J.S. Purcell at Somerset House, dated 13th October 1886 confirming that the issue was possible and giving recommendations referring to ''Appendix A'' and ''B''.
