Robert Pringle to the naturalist Sir Joseph Banks in London with fine strike of the rare ''ANDALUCIA/VAXA'' in black, charged ''8'' with London ''OC/20'' receiving Bishop mark on reverse, clean and attractive. Pringle apologises for the inclusion of a castrate amongst a shipment of rams and gives news of the Governor's gout. Ex Osborn. Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) was President of the Royal Society and had accompanied Captain James Cook on his first great voyage from 1768 to 1771. He is credited with introducing the eucalyptus, acacia and (named after him) the Banksia to the Western world. Approximately 80 other species of plants also bear his name. Photo.
