Falkland Islands: King George VI: Covers and Cancellations: Privilege Mail: Stampless envelope addressed to Karl Lellman at Darwin, with superb strike of violet ''FELLOWSHIP of the BELLOWS/(bellows)/BLOW TO IT'' cachet, partially overstruck by Port Stanley type PS.2A c.d.s. ''C/13 JA/44'', and with and additional strike of the cachet on reverse, rare, only five such covers are known to exist. The Fellowship of the Bellows was formed in Argentina in 1940, the aim being to collect funds for the purchase of aircraft for the Royal Air Force and to ''raise the wind''. The idea quickly spread to other countries including the Falkland Islands, members undertaking to donate 1d. for each enemy aircraft shot down. Correspondence relating to these fundraising efforts was was permitted to be sent free of charge, the Rev. Gerry Lowe being the local administrator and holder of the handstamp. Photo.

Falkland Islands: King George VI: Covers and Cancellations: 1945 envelope endorsed ''On Active Service'' and ''AIR MAIL'', with naval tombstone censor in blue, red ''POST/OFFICE/MARITIME/MAIL'' and violet boxed '' DAMAGED BY SEA-WATER'' cachet, stained and with lower flap of reverse missing. It is likely that the incident in which the cover was involved would have been the fire on board the ''Scythia'' which had broken out as she entered the River Mersey on May 23 carrying mail from the Americas and that the cover had been carried by air to North America and thence across the Atlantic. Note on reverse reveals sender as ''J. Bimson HMS Pursuivant c/o GPO London'', this being the base ship for the Naval Officer in Charge at the Falkland Islands. An office at the rear of the church carried the same name. Very rare.
