Antarctica: British Expedition 1910-13: Small expedition envelope addressed by Lieutenant Teddy Evans to Sir Clements Markham in London, franked by Victoria Land 1d. by Jan. 19 1911 expedition c.d.s, the earliest date, vertical fold well clear of adhesive and some very faint staining. Lieutenant Edward R.G.R. Evans, R.N., was second-in-command of the expedition and captain of the ''Terra Nova''. He accompanied Scott to within 150 miles of the Pole, but later became seriously ill with scurvy and was invalided home, only narrowly surviving the return journey. Sir Clements Markham, former President of the Royal Geographical Society, was the principal organiser of the National Antarctic Expedition of 1901–04, and assisted with fundraising for the 1910 Expedition, serving on the organising committee and arranging the deal which brought in Lieutenant Evans as second-in-command in return for the abandonment of Evans's own expedition plans. Frank Debenham was one of a group of three geologists on the 1910–1913 Expedition, exploring and mapping the western mountains of Victoria Land. He was unable to take part in the ill-fated attempt on the South Pole due to a knee injury sustained while playing football in the snow, although he did join the second western journey with Griffith Taylor, Tryggve Gran and William Forde. Antarctica: British Expedition 1910-13: Personal greetings map postcard written and signed by T. Griffith Taylor to Ian Macaulay in Sydney, unfranked but showing expedition ''3 MR/12'' c.d.s., the day on which the ''Terra Nova'' sailed from the Antarctic base. Thomas Griffith Taylor (1880-1963) was the leader of the successful geological team, responsible for the first maps and geological interpretations of significant areas of Antarctica. Whilst Scott led his party of five to the South Pole, Griffith's party carried out a separate expedition to the Granite Harbour region. The ''Terra Nova'' proved unable to reach the party on Jan. 15 as agreed and on Feb. 5 the group began a southward trek until rescued from the ice when spotted by the ship on Feb. 18. Photo.

Sir Joseph James Kinsey (1852-1936), founder of the shipping firm of Kinsey, Barns & Co., was a close personal friend of Capt. Scott and had served as attorney for the ''Discovery'', ''Nimrod'', ''Terra Nova'' and ''Aurora'' relief expeditions, in recognition of which he was awarded the Scott Medal by the R.G.S. in 1914 and a knighthood in 1919. Antarctica: British Expedition 1910-13: 1913 (Mar. 10) letter on Scottish Society of New Zealand, Christchurch stationery written with message of support by James Macintosh, Chief addressed to able seaman William McDonald on board the ''Terra Nova'' at Lyttelton. William 'Bill' McDonald had sailed from Lyttelton on both the second and third voyages of the ''Terra Nova'' and had helped to build the cross which stands atop Observation Hill, behind Scott Base in honour of the fallen members of the party. Mount McDonald in Victoria Land was later named was named by the New Zealand Federated Mountain Clubs Antarctic Expedition 1962-63 for him. Photo.
