Important information for vendors

Grosvenor Auctions is the leading specialist philatelic auction house in Central London. We pride ourselves on our high quality of presentation and on providing a reliable and efficient service, thus ensuring the professionalism expected of a modern company. The directors of Grosvenor are experienced stamp professionals of long standing and they are backed by an exceptional team of consultants who, jointly, are able to cover all aspects of the philatelic world.

Considering your options

When you decide to dispose of an asset you naturally wish to obtain the best possible price. Grosvenor is able to make sure that you achieve this objective.

The benefits of public auction

Selling your stamps by public auction ensures that you will not lose out. Grosvenor facilitates contact with thousands of buyers worldwide who will compete to buy the stamps they seek. High-quality catalogues and skilled presentation provide purchasers with a market in which they can buy with complete confidence.

Private Treaty sale

There are times when direct sale by Private Treaty may be recommended. Grosvenor will be happy to give advice when this is the case - for example, when a speedy sale is desirable.

Working in your interest

Grosvenor, acting as agent, will sell your collection on your behalf. As we operate on a commission only basis, it is in our interest also that the best possible realisation should be achieved. It is of course our responsibility to accurately present the material being sold. Great care is taken to ensure that the buyer can bid with full confidence in our descriptions.

Quality of service

Grosvenor provides a personal service unusual today. Our independent status makes it possible for our approach to be professional, friendly and competitive. Our commission rates are negotiable for suitable properties and usually significantly lower than those offered elsewhere.

Advertising

Auctions are advertised widely in both the philatelic press and study circle journals. In addition, every auction is publicised on the Internet. Announcements, descriptions and illustrations can be viewed on our website.

Charges

Vendors are charged a simple percentage of the total sale result. We do not impose "hidden" charges such as "minimum", "lotting" or "unsold" fees. A copy of our standard Terms and Conditions of Sale is available on request and is provided on your receipt when material is received. VAT at the current rate is added to charges made to EU residents. A typical example would be:

-Lot selling for £1,000. Commission charge 15% + VAT. Total deduction £180.

- Should additional security be required this is charged at 1% of the figure achieved.

-Prompt payment is made 35 days after the auction except in exceptional circumstances.

Valuations

Our specialists are happy to visit the homes or offices of clients who are thinking of selling their stamps. These visits are normally without charge or obligation. Please contact us for details of our next visit to your area. Valuations for those who are considering sale are also normally carried out without charge. Details of fees for valuations for Probate, Insurance or for other purposes are available on request. These fees may be refunded if the collection is subsequently sold through us.

Full confidentiality is assured at all times.
