2594 Booklets and Related Items: 1967–70 Machin 5d., a block of four booklet panes of six in tête-bêche format from an uncut booklet sheet, fine unmounted mint. These were purchased from a London sub post office, it transpired that the stamps were part of a consignment stolen in transit from the printers to the booklet manufacturers. The thieves then sold the stamps at a discount to ‘co-operative’ post office employees for sale over the counter. The sub postmaster and other persons were subsequently arrested. Photo. 1200 1500 900
