2017 1840 2d. blue plate 1 PA-PF strip of six with ample to large margins virtually all around, used to pay the prepaid 1/- rate on a letter up to 1/2 an ounce on 1840 (Nov. 15th) envelope (with original enclosure) from Hot Wells, Bristol, to Lady Louis in Malta, via Falmouth, the strip tied by bright orange Maltese Crosses of Bristol and PD-PE additionally just tied by "HOT WELLS" undated circle in blue. A spectacular and most attractive exhibition item item from this famous correspondence.

Lady Hamilton, elder daughter of Admiral Sir John Louis, 3rd Baronet, married Robert-Spencer Robinson, Controller of the Royal Navy, in May 1841, so Lady Louis was presumably visiting her suitor in Malta at this time.
